Part of the required materials for your application package is a current TOEFL score Once you’ve applied andbeen accepted Pacific Film & New Media Academy there are some next steps. 1. First will be applying for your Study Visa:http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/study/index.asp Once that has been approved of course you’ll be looking for places to live, eat, how to get around, currency exchanges, health care and medical insurance. 2. Below are some links to help with finding accommodations:http://www.usedvictoria.com/classifieds/apartment-rentals http://victoria.kijiji.ca/f-housing-apartments-for-rent-W0QQCatIdZ37 http://victoria.en.craigslist.ca/apa/ It’s important when looking for a place to live that you tell the person you are talking to where the school is (downtown at 715 Discovery Street). Ask about; close bus routes, how far the nearest grocery store is, nearby parks and walking trails, movie theaters. People in Victoria are very helpful and we often like talking about our beautiful city, so don’t be shy. Ask a lot of questions. Typically when you’ve decided on where you’d like to live the landlord will ask for a “security deposit” usually half of one month’s rent, plus first and last months rent. Please account for that in your budget. You will get your security deposit BACK when you move out as long as you’ve kept the apartment in good condition. We have a regulation body in The Government of British Columbia that ensures your rights as a tenant are taken care of http://www.rto.gov.bc.ca/ If you are looking for a complete Canadian experience, “homestay” programs may be the option for you. http://www.victoriahomestayagency.com/ http://www.canpages.ca/page/BC/victoria/five-star-international-homestay/1960662.html The Google search bar is a good way to find out about weather, convert currency, even figure out the time difference: www.google.com Need to convert currency? Type [12 GBP in CAD ] (use your country’s currency code http://www.xe.com/iso4217.php ) Want a weather forecast? Try "weather" followed by the city name; Type [ weather Victoria ] Want to know what time it is? Enter "time" followed by any city; Type [ time Victoria] 3. If you do not have medical insurance, being in a foreign country you may want to. Below are some links about medical care and insurance: https://www.health.gov.bc.ca/exforms/msp/102fil.pdf http://www.gov.bc.ca/health/ Below is a list of the most commonly found Grocery stores in Victoria. Just follow the links to the store’s own homepage. http://www.shopinvictoria.com/Food/Grocers/ Nothing is very far in Victoria, most things are within walking distance, and for further distances Victoria has a very comprehensive transit system with maps and schedules http://www.transitbc.com/regions/vic/?p=2.list Victoria is situated on Vancouver Island, so getting on and off the Island to Vancouver BC, or Washington State USA, there are numerous choices; http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainland/tssw-current.html http://www.victoriaairport.com/ http://cohoferry.com/main/ http://www.helijet.com/ http://www.harbour-air.com/ http://www.clippervacations.com/ferry/ From the Victoria airport you can take a transit bus, a taxi or the every popular shuttle bus to downtown Victoria.
