In 1988 Donna Clausen and I came up with an idea to teach people
about film. I started with a little box of lights, teaching people
the ins and outs of the business, and never looked back. Who could
have imagined it would grow into an accredited
school with graduates working on projects throughout North
America, going to the Cannes Film Festival or taking a trip to
the Oscars. With these noteworthy accomplishments standing behind
us and our solid reputation and foundation beneath us, I could
not be more excited about the future direction of VMPS.
I have to begin with the numerous possibilities in our facility.
It is here, in the Victoria Motion Picture School, where we will be able
to better serve our number one priority - the students. It is
our mission to provide all our students with the skills necessary
to attain a successful career in the film industry. The industry
is growing rapidly and eagerly looking for trained professionals.
There is a very specific and necessary skill set required for
success in this highly competitive field. The successful professional
will have a healthy knowledge regarding film, the many possible
applications, and lots of practical experience to back up their
theoretical knowledge. The acting profession is quite similar.
A successful actor needs to be multi-talented, highly skilled
and possess a solid background of training. At VMPS
we strive to provide the students with the skills and abilities
they will need to present themselves to prospective production
crews with confidence and assurance. Our large facility is sure
to be the springboard for many future remarkable careers.
Here at the Victoria Motion Picture School we offer spacious classrooms
for thought-provoking discussions, editing suites for those with
an abundance of creativity and a large studio, where those with
endless energy could certainly emulate Hollywood's best. Our facility,
without a doubt, has the best infrastructure around. Our instructors
are among the best in the industry with an abundance of experience
to draw from.
Victoria Motion Picture School Ltd's future
is the students' future, and together we will go forward into
a brand new, and very bright, coming years.
We can thank a dedicated core of film and acting instructors,
as well as our Registrar and Program Managers for solidifying
our two programs - production and performance. The courses are
without a doubt challenging and demanding. As a student, you'll
find you need tremendous dedication to succeed, which is exactly
what you need once you're beyond the walls of VMPS.
We are positive that our Film and Acting programs are, quite frankly,
the best and most comprehensive around.
There is one aspect of the film industry that I fear other schools
overlook. In order to ensure the success of future grads, it is
vital for schools to have ties to the film industry. At VMPS,
we are constantly working on creating new networks, while maintaining
and strengthening connections founded many years ago. Based on
comments from past graduates, we know you will appreciate our
efforts. You see, as a student at VMPS, you will
have the opportunity to attend and participate in various workshops
hosted by industry professionals. These workshops also provide
students a great chance to start their own network with a wide
variety of individuals.
I look forward to working with you on the many projects to come
and can only hope, that when you reach the end of your VMPS
journey, you are a step closer to realizing your dream.
